Arizona's mining landscape looks bright in 2018

How is the Arizona mining landscape shaping up in 2018? On 29 Nov., I sat down with Steve Trussell, on the Arizona Mining Review e-Magazine, to pursue that question. Steve has served as Executive Director of the Arizona Rock Products Assn. for more than a decade. In fall-2017, he was named Executive Director of the Arizona Mining Alliance, bringing for the first-time advocacy of the industrial mineral and metallic mining industries under one roof.

In our 9-minute conversation, Steve weighed in on:

  • Challenges and opportunities of coordinating advocacy for all Arizona mining
  • Progress in permitting Florence Copper and Hudbay’s Rosemont Copper projects
  • Gold mining at the Copperstone Gold Mine and Northern Vertex’s Moss Mine in western Arizona
  • And the combined $10 billion impact that mining industrial minerals and metals – copper, manganese, lead, zinc, gold, and silver, among others -  have on Arizona’s economy.

The mining outlook for 2018 is bright. Here at the Arizona Geological Survey, we’ll continue to pursue and report on the challenges and opportunities facing Arizona’s mining industry.
